For the past five decades, lead-acid batteries were the leading choice for lift trucks operating in the retail, grocery, and institutional food distribution and manufacturing sectors. However, that is no longer the case. Around 10 years ago, an impressive list of key players, including Central Grocers, Sysco, Whole Foods, Wegmans and BMW Manufacturing began shifting their material handling needs from lead-acid batteries to fuel cells, which convert hydrogen fuel into energy through an electrochemical reaction.

Plug Power, a leading provider of fuel cells throughout North America, recently retained Rueckert Advertising and Public Relations to draft a series of white papers that dispel the myths that fuel cells are not a viable option in the materials handling business. The Latham-based company also wanted to use the marketing pieces to showcase fuel cells’ numerous benefits, including improved business operations through increased productivity, lowered operational costs, enhanced space utilization and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the company’s marketing team, our informational pieces are used extensively by their sales force to demonstrate industry expertise, build trust with their target audience and generate warm leads to their door.
