The Grand at Barnwell Slates 10/29 Community Trick or Treat Celebration
Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018 -- The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Barnwell (3230 Church St, Valatie, N.Y.) will host a spooky Community Trick or Treat Celebration on Monday, Oct. 29 from 6-8 p.m.
The haunted festivities will feature a trick-or-treat trail leading through the hallways to residents who will hand out candy to visitors. There will also be prizes for the best costume, a haunted house in the facility’s rehabilitation gym, Halloween games with prizes, a photo booth, mylar balloons for all, cider and doughnuts, as well as a table of fun Halloween treats. Additionally, attendees will have the chance to feed and have their photos taken with two pet llamas decked out in their own hair-raising attire.
"We’re part of the community and want to provide an opportunity for families to celebrate a fun evening with us,” said The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Barnwell Director of Recreation Bridget Delcoure. “Many of our residents miss taking their own children trick-or-treating and manning the front door at their homes, so this gives them a chance to enjoy that again. It’s also great to be able to provide a safe, indoor trick-or-treating venue for local residents.”
Since many traditional Halloween treats aren’t safe for children with allergies to peanuts, nuts, and soy, or those diagnosed with Celiac Disease who need to stay away from gluten and wheat, The Grand has partnered with the Teal Pumpkin Project, a worldwide movement to create a safer, happier Halloween for all kids.
“By placing a teal pumpkin in front of our facility and offering non-food treats such as yo-yo’s, teal-colored frisbees and other toys as an alternative to candy, we can show children with severe allergies that The Grand is a safe place to trick-or-treat without the dangers,” she added.
