Rueckert Advertising and Public Relations “Trots Home” With American Marketing Association Honors
October 7, 2013 - An integrated marketing campaign executed on behalf of the record-breaking 65th annual Troy Turkey Trot earned Rueckert Advertising and Public Relations, Inc. and social media partner blue.0 top honors at the American Marketing Association’s 19th Mark of Excellence awards ceremony, which was held Oct. 2 at the Glen Sanders Mansion in Scotia.
The winning entry for the trot, one of the oldest and largest Thanksgiving road races in the nation, was earned in the homegrown marketing category, featuring campaigns with budgets ranging from $0-$100,999.
“We were delighted to win against some very stiff competition,” said Rueckert Advertising Vice President Chris Rueckert. “This competition is based around having great results and we certainly had them for this comprehensive effort.”
Executed on behalf of the City of Troy and the USA Track and Field Adirondack Association, the Troy Turkey Trot campaign featured proactive public relations, coupled with advertising and social media strategies. It also included a “Virtual Training Program” for those who wanted to participate but didn’t think they were able to run the distance of the event without the proper training.

Rueckert Advertising has developed a track record of providing award-winning marketing strategies for regional road races. In 2010, the agency won the American Marketing Association’s Mark of Excellence award for its marketing and public relations work on behalf of the Freihofer’s Run for Women. Its annual campaigns for that race — one of the world’s largest and most prestigious all-female 5K road races — have been recognized on three occasions by the Public Relations Society of American (Capital Region chapter) and profiled twice in PR Week magazine.
