1st National Bank of Scotia Donates $15,000 to Camp Fowler and Retreat Center

Thursday, May 20, 2021 -- 1st National Bank of Scotia recently donated $15,000 to Camp Fowler and Retreat Center, a non-profit Christian summer camp in the Adirondack Park.

The gift, which will be used to build a rustic gazebo, was made in honor of David Schweizer of Galway, a longtime board member, audit committee chair and supporter of the Lake Pleasant, N.Y.-based camp.

“We are delighted to make this donation in recognition of David’s 41 years of service to the bank and community,” said Lou Buhrmaster, chairman of the board, 1st National Bank of Scotia. “David has always been a champion of Camp Fowler and we’re thrilled to be able to offer a scenic gathering area not only for campers, but also groups attending retreats, weddings, banquets and family reunions at the facility.”

“We are always looking to shape the camp’s facilities in ways that reflect the values of community, simplicity, and caring for the world,” added Kent Busman, executive director, Camp Fowler. “The new gazebo is an ideal size for conversation. It will seat up to 10 campers and staff and provide a focal point to our outdoor facilities, while offering breathtaking views of the Adirondack Mountains.”

Adirondack craftsman, Steve Cook, is currently working on the project. The gazebo is expected to be completed by spring 2022.
