Freihofer's Training Challenge Goes Online During COVID-19 Pandemic

Wednesday, March 18, 2020 -- This week marks the start of the 10th annual Freihofer's Training Challenge, a couch-to-5K program designed to help women of all ages and abilities get ready for the 42nd Freihofer’s Run for Women on Saturday, May 30.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the program, which was set to take place at numerous sites throughout Albany, Saratoga and Rensselaer counties, has been brought online.

"Due to the current school closings and need for social distancing we are postponing the in-person component of the Training Challenge," said Freihofer's Run for Women Co-Director Kristen Hislop. "We are encouraging everyone to start the program online on their own."

Prior to each training session, the program's 200+ participants are being invited to watch linked videos for an overview of the workout and dynamic warm ups and cool down stretches. Organizers are also hosting Facebook live events at each workout, enabling participants to ask questions.

"Our focus is health and wellness," Hislop added. "As such, we need to adapt and adjust. Our plan is to have fun doing this apart, but always together!"

As the virus continues to spread, solo running outdoors for 30-60 minutes is a great way to keep spirits up and maintain a strong immune system, according to a recent Runners World article.

Folks who’d like to join the Freihofer’s Training Challenge can do so through April 1 here.
