The Grand Healthcare System Purchases Utica's Heritage Health Care Center
Tuesday, March 12, 2019 -- The Grand Healthcare System, one of New York’s leading healthcare companies, in has purchased Heritage Health Care Center, a 220-bed extended-stay nursing facility, for an undisclosed amount.
The non-profit facility, which offers an array of short- and long-term nursing care following hospitalization to improve independence, dignity, and self-esteem, has been renamed The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Utica. It becomes one of numerous nursing homes across the state to be affiliated with Queens, N.Y.-based company. Other residences are located in Albany, Columbia, Delaware, Dutchess, Erie, Genesee, Madison, Nassau, Oneida, and Otsego counties, as well as the borough of Queens.
“Since 2017, while serving as consultants to Heritage, we focused our energies on managing the building and bringing all levels of care up to par,” said Jeremy B. Strauss, CEO of The Grand Healthcare System, which also owns The Grand at Rome and The Grand at Chittenango. “Now that the facility is officially under our ownership, we look forward to launching this property according to the expectations of our brand.”
The Grand Healthcare System has already begun significant upgrades to The Grand at Utica. The company recently finished remodeling the tower building’s seventh floor so that it features more than two dozen private rooms with sweeping city views.
“The rest of the tower building in need of renovating will be completed within the year,” Strauss added. “Work will also begin shortly on a new state-of-the-art rehabilitation gym that will provide individualized exercise programs to help residents heal faster so that they can return home to their loved ones.”
The rebranding of The Grand at Utica, which opened its doors in 1867 as a shelter for homeless women, will begin with new interior and exterior signage and new uniforms for staff. Guests will also have access to hospitality features offered at other Grand properties such as a personalized menu, concierge service, courtesy shuttle service, and iPad program to communicate with family and loved ones any time of day or night.
