Troy Turkey Trot Donates $15,000 to Event Charities, Sets Food Donation Record!
Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018 -- Officials from the City of Troy gathered at the Troy Atrium this afternoon to award a $15,000 check from the Troy Turkey Trot to the event’s two charities, the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York and Joseph's House and Shelter, a Troy-based not- for-profit whose mission is to prevent and alleviate homelessness.
A total of 6,425 participants took part in this year’s Trot, which was the coldest in the event’s 71-year history.
They gave $12,531 to the non-profits during online registration. Pioneer Bank, which has sponsored the event for the past 22 years, matched all charity donations up to $2,500.
This year’s event also set new records in terms of food donation totals to the Food Bank and local food panties. Participants gave 1,386 pounds, which is equivalent to 1,155 meals.
