Veterans, Community Members Invited to Attend June 14 Flag Day Event, BBQ at The Grand at Barnwell
Wednesday, June 12, 2019 -- Members of the community, including area veterans, are invited to join residents from The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Barnwell who served with the army, navy, marines and air force at a Flag Day ceremony held Friday, June 14 on The Grand’s front lawn.
The program, held in conjunction with American Legion Hudson Post 184, begins at 11 a.m. when Sonny Rogers, a 35-year American Legion Post member, oversees a patriotic Stars & Stripes flag-raising ceremony and “To the Color” bugle call.
American Legion Hudson Post 184 Chaplain Rick Howland will then lead the morning’s prayers, which will be followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and remarks given by an American Legion Post member. Rodger Bradley, a 66-year Post member, will then oversee the facility’s flag retirement.
“All attendees are invited to a barbecue lunch immediately following our Flag Day ceremony,” said Bridget Delcoure, director of recreation, The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Barnwell. “The ceremony and lunch are free and open to the public. Should the weather not be on our side that day we will move the ceremony indoors to our rehabilitation gym.”
